Puscifer have a big year ahead of them with the release of a new album, Normal Isn’t, on February 6th, and the launch of a North American tour on March 20th. Consequence recently caught up with the band’s three core members — Maynard James Keenan, Carina Round, and Mat Mitchell — to discuss the album, the tour, and more.
Prior to the calendar flipping to 2026, Puscifer already earned high praise for their new tunes, with the single “Self Evident” topping Consequence‘s list of the 30 Best Metal & Hard Rock Songs of 2025.
Leading up to the album’s release, the band members revealed that they were highly influenced by goth and new wave music while making Normal Isn’t, even sharing playlists of the songs that inspired them along the way.
“Growing up when I was kind of coming of age and listening to a lot of music, there wasn’t a lot of outlets [like] SiriusXM where you can just put on the station that’s curated exactly to what you want to hear,” Mitchell told us in the video interview above. “So, there would be one night a week where a club in town would play that type of [goth and new wave] music. … I t really left an imprint.”
Keenan added, “A lot of the early goth stuff… does stand the test of time. There’s an attitude to it, there’s a structure to it, and a sound to it that is pretty amazing.”
Over the years, Puscifer has evolved from a quirky Keenan side project into a full-fledged band, with Round and Mitchell becoming mainstays in the lineup.
“When I was asked to join, I obviously had heard of Maynard, and loved everything that I’d heard from him,” said Round. “I was fully enrolled from the get go, and I wanted to be a part of it. I think it’s just naturally grown ever since. And at every juncture there’s been something thrown in there that has made me feel the same way… It’s allowed me to grow parts of myself that I didn’t know existed within this group, within this art. It’s just been a great creative journey.”
In addition to discussing the new album (including a few specific songs), the tour, and the band’s evolution, the members each talked about what isn’t normal about Puscifer (playing off the album’s title), leading Maynard to make a quip about his other bands. Watch the full interview above.
Puscifer’s spring tour runs from a March 20th show in Las Vegas through a May 14th gig in Los Angeles, Pick up tickets via Ticketmaster or StubHub, and pre-order the album at this location.
