Two for the Road is a series in which two artists touring together chat about playing shows, life backstage, and more. The latest installment of the series features Puscifer’s Maynard James Keenan and comedian-musician Dave Hill.
Puscifer are set to kick off a spring North American tour in support of their recently released new album, Normal Isn’t, and they’re bringing comedian-musician Dave Hill along for the ride as a special guest.
The trek launches March 20th in Las Vegas, and wraps up May 14th in Los Angeles, making stops in Dallas, Boston, New York City, Detroit, Chicago, Seattle, and San Francisco, among other cities (pick up tickets via Ticketmaster or StubHub).
Ahead of the tour, Puscifer singer Maynard James Keenan caught up with Dave Hill for Consequence‘s Two for the Road series, discussing their plans for the spring outing, their influences in comedic music, and various epicurean delights.
Of course, with these two comedic minds involved, things took a humorous turn, with Keenan interrogating Hill in a mock job interview at the start of the conversation. “What is it exactly you’re gonna be doing for us?” asks Keenan, with Hill responding, “I’m doing sandwiches and hair care.”
Elsewhere, Keenan brought up Monty Python and Tenacious D as two of his biggest influences when it comes to combining music with humor.
“Tenacious D — doing some shows with them in the early days,” recalled Keenan of performing on the same comedy bills with the musical duo in Los Angeles in the ’90s. “I was just there to just do some comedy stuff… and Tenacious D closes the show, and it’s like, ‘Oh, f**k yeah!'”
