Lamb of God just released their new album, Into Oblivion, and have kicked off a North American headlining tour.
The outing launched on March 17th, and runs through an April 25th show in Boston, hitting Detroit, Seattle, San Francisco, Houston, Brooklyn, and other cities along the way (pick up tickets here).
Ahead of the tour, Heavy Consequence caught up with Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe to discuss the new album, the importance of being politically engaged, the band’s annual Headbangers Boat cruise, and more.
“I think people are just beaten down now,” Blythe told us of his recent essay urging people to engage in political discourse. “A lot of people feel as if their voice doesn’t matter and that their vote doesn’t matter… It’s just ground down by the daily insanity that is life here now.”
He continued, “Everything is constantly exploding, not just here in America, but everywhere. And people, if they want things to get better, they have to remain engaged… You have to become politically engaged. Sometimes you have to protest, sometimes you have to go to the ballot box.”
Blythe also discussed a few Into Oblivion tracks, including “El Vacío,” one of the more melodic songs in the Lamb of God catalog.
“That song, in particular, if there were two people that I wish were still alive… to comment on what’s going on in our society right now, it’s [author] Hunter S. Thompson and Dave Brockie [aka GWAR’s Oderus Urungus], and both of them were brilliant,” said Blythe, who explained that the first verse is about Thompson and the second verse is about Brockie.
