With the Fantastic Beasts<\/i> movies now a less-than-fond memory for Warner Bros., Harry Potter<\/i><\/a>’s next phase is in full swing. The first trailer for the upcoming series adaptation reveals how HBO will begin readapting author J.K. Rowling’s culture-defining novel series, with the first season covering the first book <\/i>across eight episodes. The first season, in fact, will be titled Harry Potter and the<\/i> Philosopher’s Stone <\/i>(not bothering to American-ize it as Sorcerer’s Stone<\/em>, the way the original book was).<\/p>\n

Young Dominic McLaughlin will be this new generation’s Harry, with Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton cast as his best friends Ron and Hermione. Their professors at Hogwarts will include John Lithgow<\/a> as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost<\/a> as Rubeus Hagrid.<\/p>\n

There is nothing special about Harry Potter – at least that’s what his Aunt Petunia always says. On his 11th birthday, a letter of admittance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry opens up a hidden world for Harry: one of fun, friendship and magic. But with this new adventure comes great risk as Harry is forced to face a dangerous enemy from his past.<\/p>\n

The new Harry Potter<\/i> series launches under a shadow of controversy thanks to Rowling’s extreme anti-trans activism<\/a>, leading to Lithgow and other cast members disavowing her views<\/a>. Still, HBO plans for the show to run eight seasons, adapting all seven of the books, and has brought Hans Zimmer and Bleeding Fingers on board to compose the score<\/a>.<\/p>\n
