The White Stripes are an American rock duo hailing from Detroit, Michigan, made up of Jack and Meg White noted for being one of the defining acts of the 2000s garage rock revival. The band blended blues rock with alternative rock and garage for a sound that was refreshing and helped pave the way for what a mere duo was capable of.
They achieved critical acclaim and success with their early 2000s releases White Blood Cells and Elephant, the latter of which spawned the single "Seven Nation Army," which is perhaps one of the most recognizable rock songs of the 2000s.
Following their 2007 release, Icky Thump, the band took a lengthy hiatus from recording, and eventually broke up in 2011.
